Corporate Social Responsibility

There is much debate in this area. Business has an ethical responsibility towards its employees. Here are some additional points to ponder.

Improving company identity.

Managing your brand or corporate identity has never been more important. The media are very powerful.

Companies have been made or destroyed by public perception. You want your customers to know you are taking account of their concerns. You want public perception of your company to be one of quality. How can this be when the company does not care about its workers?

Improving staff morale.

Attract and retain the best staff. Employees stay with responsible employers. Do your staff feel proud to work for your company?

Business opportunity.

There is a business opportunity in being seen to “solve a problem”. This develops a greater relationship of trust with customers. Be seen to “do the right thing”.

A good source of information is C2E (“Committed 2 Equality”) their website is at www.c2e.co.uk

C2E estimate that 77% of large UK companies have little or no equality practice. The figure rises to 97.5% of small companies. 16 million employees are affected.

More than 1.1 million companies could be illegally discriminating in the ways the select and hire new employees.

Here’s the government position:
